In 2013, the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce heard over 350 cases, whereas the value of the object of litigation amounted to 1 billion PLN, said Marek Furtek, the president of the court, to ISBnews. In Furtek’s opinion, this number may increase, however, we need to implement changes to the arbitration regulations which have been in force for 9 years now.
“The number of cases heard by the Court remains more or less the same, ca. 300 - 400 cases per year. The fluctuations are rather irrelevant as they relate to smaller cases. Also the range of sectors which most cases concern seems to be the same. These include construction and infrastructure projects, such as water supply systems or sewage treatment plants” – said Marek Furtek to ISBnews.
Furtek also estimates the value of disputes resolved by the Court of Arbitration in 2013 at about 1 billion PLN. Nevertheless, the president of the court hopes that the number of cases will increase, for example, due to the new legal regulations. “Polish arbitration needs this amendment as the last changes were introduced 9 years ago. After some time, some of them turned out to be unnecessary or misguided” – underlined Furtek.
